Judge Laura Phillips re-joins our office as First Assistant District Attorney after retiring as District Judge in the Calhoun County Family Court Division.  Prior to ascending the bench  she worked for District Attorney Joe Hubbard  for 15 years. She created and  supervised the Family Violence Trial Division and assisted in trying several high profile Capital Murder cases to include the Blockbuster murder.  Judge Phillips attended Jacksonville State University where she obtained  a bachelor’s in political science with special honor and then attended the Birmingham School of Law and obtained her Juris Doctorate. 

 

She has been a member of a number of professional and community organizations including the National District Attorney’s Association, Alabama District Attorney’s Association, Alabama Supreme Court’s Standing Committee on Juvenile Rules and Procedure, Calhoun County Family Services Board of Directors, and Calhoun and Cleburne County Child Trauma Team. Furthermore, Judge Phillips was a founding member of the Calhoun and Cleburne County Child Death Review Team, the Calhoun County Task Force Against Domestic Violence (of which she was also co-chairman), a co-founding member  of the Calhoun County Success Academy,  and was appointed by Governor Robert Bentley  as  member of the Alabama Department of Mental Health’s Board of Trustees.
