Retired Chief Investigator Alex E. Ference has been with the DA’s Office since November of 2000 and retired in June 2020.  He has since returned as a part time Chief Investigator to continue serving the DA’s Office. His prior law enforcement experience includes five years as a Calhoun County Deputy Sheriff and ten years as a Military Policeman in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves.  He has earned an Associate in Applied Science Degree from Gadsden State Community College and a B.S. and M.S. from Jacksonville State University with all being in the criminal justice field.  His awards include 2011 Investigator of the year for the Alabama District Attorney’s Association and 2008 Officer of the Year for the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #4.
